PFTA: Grand Canyon Sunset

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to spend a week at the Grand Canyon South Rim. After work, I took the time to visit my old stomping grounds. I worked at the South Rim several years ago, and it was awesome to see the Grand Canyon again. This was during the late winter, or early spring, and I decided to walk the Rim Trail near the Bright Angel Lodge to catch sunset. I was happy to see the Canyon in all its spleandor. Winter Sunrise

Driving to work this morning, I knew I would not get another chance of capturing a sunrise of the Towers and Temples of the Virgin covered with snow. I pulled off of the road and grabbed my cellphone to get this shot. Luckily, I still made it on time for work, barely…

PFTA: Old Faithful Lodge

I had the unique opportunity to visit Yellowstone National Park during the winter a few years ago. I won a trip for two for two nights at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. I booked the trip the previous summer for mid-January the following year. I timed the trip perfectly. The week before I got there, the high was -15F and the lows were sub-zero. When I was there, the high was 15F and the lows were about -15. The day after I left, it snowed several feet. It was an amazing trip, and I was able to walk around the Old Faithful Basin as long as I could feel my toes-then it was inside to warm up. The morning of my second day, I looked out the hotel window and watched the Old Faithful Geyser erupt, so I grabbed my camera and took this photo of the eruption. In the foreground is the Old Faithful Lodge and some snow cats.

PFTA: Grand Canyon Storm

This is an image from the Photo From The Archives series.  I took this in the early winter of 2004 when I was working at the Grand Canyon South Rim.  If memory serves, this was taken at Yaki Point during a snow storm that was slamming the North Rim.  IMG_0635.jpg

More beauty today

Let’s look at something beautiful and happy while cooped up indoors. Luckily we’re still in operation here in Zion, but many restrictions are now in place. Cars can now drive into the canyon, but the weather scared many away today. They just missed out on waterfalls and snow capped mountains. I took these after work today.

Frozen Friday

Woke up this morning to new snow at Zion. It’s been an absolutely gorgeous day. (I tried to post this yesterday, but the internet wasn’t cooperating.)

Enjoy!

Merry Christmas from Zion NP

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

I will do my best to post more frequently in the coming year. I have so many posts planned, but it seems that work and life get in the way too frequently.

Merry Christmas.

Enjoy, Kelly
