PFTA: Zabriskie Point

In my former life as a tour guide, I took a small group to Yosemite and San Francisco.  After leaving Las Vegas, the first stop we made was at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park.  It’s a nice two minute walk from the road up a small hill that has this beautiful vista.  It was a beautiful spring morning and I was enjoying my first visit to Death Valley.  I saw this view, and I was in awe at the beauty of the desert.

PFTA: Grand Canyon Storm

This is an image from the Photo From The Archives series.  I took this in the early winter of 2004 when I was working at the Grand Canyon South Rim.  If memory serves, this was taken at Yaki Point during a snow storm that was slamming the North Rim.  IMG_0635.jpg

Merry Christmas from Zion NP

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

I will do my best to post more frequently in the coming year. I have so many posts planned, but it seems that work and life get in the way too frequently.

Merry Christmas.

Enjoy, Kelly

Sunday Sunrise

Sunrise in Zion National Park this morning was absolutely gorgeous! It snowed overnight, and cleared out sometime early this morning.

White Pocket

A week ago, I wandered into the deserts of Arizona with my friend dawn2dawn to photograph White Pocket.  This is an area on the Arizona Strip that is difficult to get to and (sometimes) hard to find.  (We got lost a couple of times, and it’s very sandy and easy to get stuck).

Needless to say, we found it- Yeah!!!  I had never been there, so it was a new experience to see all the amazing formations that are there.  I could easily have spent a couple of days here.

Here’s a taste of what I found.

Oh, yes, mushrooms even grow in rocks…how interesting!!

This strata of sandstone is known to have dinosaur footprints and evidence of their existance.  I was asking outloud if there are any dinosaur footprints in this area, and I looked over and couldn’t believe my eyes!  I found not a dinosaur print, but a giant footprint of a sneaker!!  My foot is next to it for comparison (I wear a size 9).

I love these clouds!  IMG_7074 copy

Just as we left, a jackrabbit ran in front of us.  Before he did, though, I was able to get a good look at him.  Somehow I think it’s the Easter Bunny out for a training run.

Happy Easter, everyone!  Enjoy your adventures and be safe!  It’s a desert out there!!!

Our (Somewhat) Secret Spot

My good friend and fellow blogger and photographer dawn2dawn went to the Arizona Strip, home of many amazing places, some known and some not so known.

We met (invaded their camp, actually) a wonderful family while out looking for some cool clay formations similar to the Painted Desert.  We invited them to come along (least we could do) and explore the area.

Here’s a taste of what we found.

And, of course you can’t have a desert scene without the obligitory cow skull.

Of course, this was only at the end of the trip.  The beginning is yet to come…

Enjoy,
