PFTA: Grand Canyon Bird’s Eye View

Today’s Photo From The Archive comes from the Grand Canyon.  I took this in 2005.  You may be wondering how on Earth I took a photo of the Grand Canyon, looking straight down at the Colorado River with the South Rim Village off in the distance.  Well, I wasn’t on Earth when I took this photo.  I was sitting in the back seat of a helicopter on one of the arial tours of the Canyon.  For someone who has a hard time with heights, it was actually a pleasant journey, and something I’ll never forget.

Zion… In the Moonlight

During the day, Zion Canyon is absolutely gorgeous!  However that changes during a full moon.  The moonlight makes the canyon glow and the walls take on an ethereal feel.

For the past couple of nights, I’ve been taking photos of Zion Canyon in the moon light testing some settings and playing around with manual mode.  I’ve had several great shots, but they are all of Lady Mountain and the Big Dipper using different settings.  This image is one of my favorites.  By the way, on the very right edge is the North Star.

Enjoy…

A Swarm of Swimmers

I normally don’t take a lot of photos of people in large groups, especially strangers.  For this reason, this subject was a bit hard for me (that and my work schedule prevents me from getting out there and taking photos).  I had to look through my archives to find a photo of a large swarm of objects.

I found this gem from a cruise I went on a few years ago of some kids swimming in the ocean below Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

These kids were running (or trying to) between the two trampolines on the tube that connected them.  Their antics were absolutely hilarious.  There were several face plants into the side of one trampoline or the other, belly flops and such into the water.  But my favorite is this one below.  It’s of a girl taking flight off the trampoline into the water.  Her expression is priceless.  Apparently I wasn’t the only one enjoying their antics…

Photo of the Week: The Milky Way

On Sunday night, I went with some friends (you know who you are) to Smith Mesa to watch the sunset, the stars and to enjoy each other’s company.  It was so much fun!  While everyone was sitting and chatting around the fire, I snuck away to take some photos of the Milky Way.  I have photographed constellations before, but shooting the Milky Way was something new for me.  It took a while before I found the right settings, but I think it turned out really cool (especially for a first attempt)!  Let me know what you think.
